Cherry Hill Soccer Club (CHSC) — Travel Team Tryouts for Fall 2025/Spring 2026
Thank you for your interest in CHSC travel soccer! Please review the following tryout information.
Team Selection Process
Player selection is based on a combination of tryout performance, past evaluations (if applicable), and team needs. The selection committee—including independent evaluators, current coaches, the club president, and travel directors—makes final decisions.
Key Evaluation Factors:
- Technical ability (dribbling, passing, shooting, ball control)
- Tactical understanding (positioning, decision-making, awareness)
- Athleticism (speed, endurance, agility)
- Coachability (attitude, effort, teamwork)
While decisions may not always align with expectations, we assure you they are made in good faith and in the best interest of player development. Individual feedback could be made available upon request for parents who are looking for guidance on how their child can improve.
Tryout Format & What to Expect
- Sessions will include individual skill drills, small-sided games, and full-field scrimmages.
- Each player will be observed by multiple evaluators.
- Tryouts typically last 60-90 minutes per session.
- Players should wear shin guards, cleats, and bring water.
Notification Timeline: Expect results within two weeks of the final tryout. If you do not receive an update, contact the travel directors at [email protected].
Team Formation & Playing Levels
If an age group has enough players, we may form multiple teams at different competitive levels:
- “A” Team: Higher competition level
- “B” Team: Development-focused, with potential for advancement
- “C” Team: Based on player turnout and skill level
If a player is not selected for a travel team, they may be encouraged to continue in our recreation program for further development. In some cases, players may be invited to join an older age group if roster space allows.
Returning Players & Team Placement
Current CHSC players in good standing will be given preference for open spots but are not guaranteed placement. Players may be moved to different teams or age groups based on evaluations.
A player in good standing:
- Attends practices and games regularly or provides advance notice for absences
- Arrives on time, puts forth full effort, and maintains a positive attitude
- Demonstrates sportsmanship and teamwork
- Has fulfilled all club financial obligations
- Parents uphold the Club’s Code of Conduct and participate in volunteer opportunities as requested
Playing Up Policy
Players must try out for their birth year age group. Those wishing to "play up" must also attend their age-appropriate tryout for consideration.
⚠️ Important: No age-appropriate player in good standing will lose a roster spot to a younger player playing up. The Board has final discretion on all play-up requests.
Playing Time & Commitment Expectations
General Playing Time Philosophy
· CHSC values player development, especially at younger ages, and aims to provide fair playing time for all players.
· Playing time may be affected by attendance, effort, and attitude, particularly at older/more competitive levels.
· Players missing excessive games may see reduced playing time or lose a starting role.
· Every player should play at least half of the available minutes of the game. E.g. a team that plays 30 min halves, every player should get 30 mins of field time at least. Some players may play 60 mins of the game.
Multi-Sport Athletes & Conflicts
· Fall soccer should take priority over other sports.
· Players with significant conflicts due to other commitments should communicate with their coach in advance.
Tryout Results & Team Acceptance
Expect to hear back within two weeks of the final tryout. Team selection considers player evaluations, rankings, and team needs. Prompt acceptance of an offer is appreciated, as roster adjustments may occur based on responses. Registration on the CHSC website confirms commitment.
If you do not receive notification, contact the boys' travel directors (Jeff Kehan and Rob Barger) or girls' travel director (Joe DiSalvo) at [email protected].
